Your result for The Commonly Confused Words Test...

English Genius

You scored 100% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 100% Expert!

You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!

Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!

Now, obviously I'm happy with the result! But the reason I posted it was really because of the mental journey the score took me on. My first thought: Well, I can't share that. Everyone'll think I'm boastful and smug, ooh look at her with her oh-so-perfect score, that sort of thing.

Then I thought how very English that attitude was, and also how typical of my family background, with siblings all vying for attention and any blowing of own trumpets seen as unseemly.

Then I thought that possibly I was being a tad too analytical. And that I need to chill. So I posted it! :D (Hate me if you must, I have my command of the English language to keep me warm through the long lonely nights!)

Oi wish oi 'ad gud Englishe loike wat u do...

*Applauds your stance* I got the same score, but didn't post it for the exact reasons you list.

Americans on the whole don't "do" self-depreciating humour so I constantly go through this thing here where I'll make a joke about myself and Americans will rush to reassure me that I'm wrong which is just odd. If I *really* believed the things I'll say about myself as a joke I'd never find the will to leave the house!

What? Of COURSE we do self-depreciating humor. Difference is, we MEAN it.

And anyway, admitting you got a perfect score here but didn't actually post that information at your LJ constitutes posting that information anyway, which just makes you look clever about it. How VERY American of you! *is so proud*

I admire people who can use language correctly. Words are my passion so you be just a smug as you want to be.

I can't take the test until I get home from work but be happy in the knowledge that you will outscore me. XP

I got the same result.

And I take umbrage at this whole attitude of "Americans don't do _____." I can self-deprecate with the best of them! ;)

You Janni, are one of the lovely exceptions that proves most rules!

Although, FTR, I didn't mean it as a bad thing. I actually think it is terribly sweet and caring that they rush to reassure me, honest. I'm just non-plussed by it.

You know I wasn't serious about the umbrage, right? ;)

The day I can't poke fun at everything ever (including things I probably shouldn't) is the day I'm cold and dead in my grave.

And on my way to being undead.

Of course I knew that... exception/rule, right? right!

Any time I start taking myself seriously I lie down until the feeling goes away. Erm...

I know plenty of self-deprecating Americans, but I've noticed they tend not to notice when I'm being self-deprecating. Just like irony --- I know plenty of Americans who use it, but don't pick up that other people are using it too.

Speaking as an American in the house: totally approve of self-revelation and trumpet blowing. Go YOU! Yeah!

You ARE perfect! Everyone MUST know! *points at BK's perfection*

YAY!!!!!

I scanned this fast and *though* you'd typed CRUMPET blowing and thought, hell yes, sign me up for some of that... I'm sick today all right?
