Quick question for my lovely flist - you'd have thought I'd know the answer to things like this myself by now!

If someone specifically asked for a hurt/comfort-based fic, would they most likely be after physical or emotional hurt? I'm about three quarters of the way through a challenge fic (for which it looks like I'm going to be a day late - well, won't that come as a surprise?!) and I've just realised what a total div I'm going to look if I get that wrong.

Advise me please, oh wise and awesome ones! :D

I am a h/c junkie and mostly I think physical but I have been growing more fond of emotional thanks to the writers at lifein1973.

Which probably doesn't help you much.

Oh yes, it does, and I love you! (Because the h/c I've nearly finished is physical, and also because you're lovely. *g*)

Yay - I don't have to consign my fic to the recycle bin! (Well, not for that reason anyway).

Thanks, you win the 'most wise and awesome' cookies for the prompt response.

Most people would mean physical, I think.

Thank you *hugs* I'm feeling reassured now! I guess I must have known that, otherwise I wouldn't have just written several thousand words on that premise, but you know when you panic? That's what I just did!

Oh yes, I know panic very well.

To me the term H/C *always* means physical. Even if it's emotional it arises out of physical trauma or at least a *deliberate act* like brain washing, etc.

Well, that's what I expect when I see that term anyway, something physical.

We have quite a few H/C junkies around here, so hopefully they'll weigh in too. *g*

I am totally in love with my flist now! I put up this panicky little 'I'm an idiot' post, and within seconds I've got experts at my fingertips! :D Thank you ♥

Well, that's what I expect when I see that term anyway, something physical.
And that's what it'll be - any time now (well, within hours anyway). Although I'm still not 100% sure it actually qualifies - it's not angsty, more of an ep!fic, but there is injury, and banter, and flirtage, and a bit of smut, so that's got to be close enough! :D

I don't think H/C is always angsty, although it can be, depending on the extent of the injury. It normally seems to be more of a device to reveal one character's hidden feelings for another or to perhaps reveal the depth of those feelings beyond the physical... y'know like I'll take care of you even if you can't get it up right now. Erm... that was sweetly worded, wasn't it? *g*

Hee! Ah well, blokes and their silver-tongued communication skills - sounds about right! *g*

a device to reveal one character's hidden feelings for another

Yeeeeeah I thin it just about scrapes in under that criterion. Ah well, onwards and (ahem) upwards!

So... *twiddles foot into carpet* As there are no challenges due in Pros or LoM land that I'm aware of, are you going to let us know when you post this H/C story... or is it about some pair that would make me go Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww?

It's a LoM fic. Don't know if you spotted a couple of weeks ago, someone posted on lifein1973 about a challenge community called Rounds of Kink that had LoM prompts going begging, so I wandered across and picked one up. I'll post it on lifein1973 too, I expect.

(Pairing that would make you go Ewwwww??? You who have plumbed the Doc/Master depths in ways the rest of us can only gaze at in horrified awe? Could there be such a pairing? XD)

Goody! *g* I'll look forward to it!

As to Beevis!Master/6 Fi caught me with that one (when I offered Master/Doctor I was thinking Simm!Master but didn't specify that) and I only survived *cough* the experience by basically making it Simm!Master's fantasy... Erm... *sniggers*

There are *lots* of slash pairings that make me go ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

Agreeing with Drayce, here. I think de facto H/C fic is emotional, even if it is about a broken leg, because it usually revolves around that person's psychological reaction to being hurt and than taken care of. But in my mind, the basic premise is necessary that some kind of physical damage has sustained.

I guess it could apply to totally emotional/psychological circumstances (divorce, grief -- yeah, I can see that) but H/C to me implies some kind of physical damage.
